Data Residency Statement
Last Updated: 7 May 2026
This statement explains where Subnet Calc stores and processes your data.
Deployment Regions
Subnet Calc is hosted on Microsoft Azure and deployed across three geographic regions:
| Region | Location |
|---|---|
| Europe | Ireland |
| Americas | Virginia, USA |
| Asia-Pacific | New South Wales, Australia |
Data Categories and Residency
Subnet Calc distinguishes between global data (replicated across all regions) and regional data (stored in a single assigned region).
Global Data
The following data is replicated across all three regions to ensure availability and low-latency access:
- User account information (email, name)
- Team membership and subscription status
- Project metadata (name, assigned region)
This data is replicated because it is needed to authenticate users and display project listings regardless of which region serves the request.
Regional Data
The following data is stored only in the assigned region:
- Full project designs (subnet hierarchies, address allocations)
- Design version history
When a project is created, it is assigned to the region closest to you. Once assigned, the full project data remains in that region.
Data Transfers to Third Parties
| Recipient | Data Transferred | Destination |
|---|---|---|
| Stripe | Email, name, subscription metadata | United States |
| SendGrid | Email, name, email content | European Union |
| CookieBot | Cookie consent preferences | European Union |
| Inflecto Systems Ltd | System access for support/maintenance | United Kingdom |
For international transfers from the EEA, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) and adequacy decisions as described in our Privacy Policy.
All data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest (AES-256).
Customer Control
- Your account data is replicated to all three regions automatically. This is necessary for the Service to function.
- Your project data stays in the region where the project was created.
- You can view which region each project is assigned to within the Service.
EU Data Sovereignty
For customers subject to EU data protection requirements:
- Global data is replicated to our European region (Ireland, within the EEA) as well as our other regions. Replication to non-EEA regions is covered by Standard Contractual Clauses.
- Project data created while routed to our European region stays in Ireland (within the EEA).
- We are evaluating options for an EU-only mode. Submit an enquiry via our support page if this is important to your organisation.
Disaster Recovery
In the event of a regional outage:
- Global data remains available via the other regions — users can still sign in, view team membership, and access projects stored in unaffected regions.
- Regional project data in the affected region becomes temporarily unavailable until the region recovers.
- Traffic is automatically routed away from unhealthy regions.
- Recovery procedures are documented internally and tested regularly.
